MAP & FIRE ZONES

Cathedral fire church map

During the first part of the evening, feel free to dip in and out of the Zones around fires, take part in activities, listen to stories, talk to activists, sing and eat/drink. Enjoy the atmosphere!

PRAYER ZONE

A chance to bring your prayers to God, through activity and fire!

Joy – write a moment of joy that you would like to thank God for onto the tissue paper circle. Wrap it around a cocktail stick to make a flower. Offer your thanks to God by throwing your flower into the flames and watching the sparks and flames rise towards heaven. Celebrate the joy God gives us.

Mourn – using a sharpie write a prayer on a lolly stick, saying sorry to God, or sharing with him something you are sad about. Throw the stick into the fire and watch it burn to ashes. God’s forgiveness is total and forever. God cares about the things that make us sad.

LIVE IT ZONE

Talk to the activists in this area – people who are doing exciting, life-changing things for God and for good. You could ask:

What do you do?

Why do you do it?

What difference does it make?

WORSHIP ZONE

There will be musicians playing worship songs throughout the evening. Join in at any time – sing, play, drum, hum or just listen.

Praise God!

STORY ZONE

Different story tellers will be showcasing the ancient art of telling tales around a fire.

A chance to workshop and try your hand at improvising your own story.

Listen//Tell//Change

GATHER

Then we will be gathering everyone for an act of worship together – it will be obvious when this is happening!

Mats will be laid out for everyone to sit on, in your groups. Please make sure you have at least one youth group leader on your mat and make sure no one is left out.

We will then be celebrating a simple, inclusive Communion together (Sometimes also called Holy Communion, Lord’s Supper, Eucharist or Mass). Canon Sarah will be leading and blessing the bread and wine*. This will then be shared out to the groups by a leader from each group coming forward as instructed.

If you normally take bread and wine in your church you are very welcome to join in today. If you would rather receive a prayer of blessing, tell your group leader and they will say a prayer for you instead of giving you the bread and wine.

*We will be using freshly baked bread with gluten in and alcoholic wine.

If you have any questions ask a steward in hi-vis and they will direct you to one of the planning team.

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO FOLLOW MORE OF THE WORDS OF THIS SHORT, SIMPLE SERVICE SCROLL TO THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE…

After each line read by the Leader, let the people respond, “And I have turned away from you, Lord.”

O Praise The Name

Verse 1

I cast my mind to Calvary

Where Jesus bled and died for me

I see His wounds His hands His feet

My Saviour on that cursed tree

Verse 2

His body bound and drenched in tears

They laid Him down in Joseph’s tomb

The entrance sealed by heavy stone

Messiah still and all alone

Chorus

O praise the Name of the Lord our God

O praise His Name forevermore

For endless days we will sing Your praise

Oh Lord oh Lord our God

Verse 3

Then on the third at break of dawn

The Son of heaven rose again

O trampled death where is your sting

The angels roar for Christ the King

Verse 4

He shall return in robes of white

The blazing sun shall pierce the night

And I will rise among the saints

My gaze transfixed on Jesus’ face

Set A Fire

Verse

No place I would rather be

No place I would rather be

No place I would rather be

Than here in Your love

Here in Your love

(REPEAT)

Chorus

(So) set a fire down in my soul

That I can’t contain and I can’t control

I want more of You God

I want more of You God

(REPEAT)

In Christ Alone

Verse 1

In Christ alone my hope is found

He is my light my strength my song

This Cornerstone this solid Ground

Firm through the fiercest drought and storm

What heights of love what depths of peace

When fears are stilled when strivings cease

My Comforter my All in All

Here in the love of Christ I stand

Verse 2

In Christ alone who took on flesh

Fullness of God in helpless babe

This gift of love and righteousness

Scorned by the ones He came to save

Till on that cross as Jesus died

The wrath of God was satisfied

For every sin on Him was laid

Here in the death of Christ I live

Verse 3

There in the ground His body lay

Light of the world by darkness slain

Then bursting forth in glorious Day

Up from the grave He rose again

And as He stands in victory

Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me

For I am His and He is mine

Bought with the precious blood of Christ

Verse 4

No guilt in life no fear in death

This is the power of Christ in me

From life’s first cry to final breath

Jesus commands my destiny

No power of hell no scheme of man

Can ever pluck me from His hand

Till He returns or calls me home

Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand

COMMUNION WORDS

Welcome by Sarah

Opening Song:

10,000 reasons or Light of the World

Opening Prayer

God of the sky and stars and earth and rock, we come to you now in this time and in this place to remember your Son. Make your presence known to us here, now in a very real and concrete way. Give us a break from the noise and chaos and make us remember we are taking your Son into ourselves, that by participating in this service now, we are asking Jesus to become a part of who we are – now and every day. Amen.

Scriptures

Read the Scriptures from Matthew 26:26-29

Communion

The youth leader should tell the story of the Last Supper in his or her own words. Point out to the group that this ritual was like a gift Jesus offered to the disciples. Jesus gave them a practice to remember him by.

Explain that this ritual occurred after a celebration meal and that Jesus seemed to have used whatever was left on the table. Don’t be afraid to rip off a big wad of bread for yourself and to encourage youth to do the same. Urge them to dip the bread deep into the cup and then eat. Encourage them to fully experience the taste and smells of the Eucharist.

Scriptures

Read the Scriptures from, 1 Corinthians 10:16-17, and Ephesians 4:1-6

(The Message version is quite good for both of these J)

Responsive Reading

After each line read by the Leader, the group should respond, “I am a servant of God.”

Leaders note: If the weather is not cold and damp, adjust the opening lines to your surroundings at the moment.

Leader: It’s cold.

Group: I am a servant of God.

Leader: It’s damp.

Group: I am a servant of God.

Leader: I’m ready for the sun again.

Group: I am a servant of God.

Leader: I will get up in the morning.

Group: I am a servant of God.

Leader: I will do what I always do.

Group: I am a servant of God.

Leader: I will do what I have to do.

Group: I am a servant of God.

Leader: Because that is what I do.

Group: I am a servant of God.

Leader: No discussion. No arguing. No bargaining.

Group: I am a servant of God.

Leader: People can spend their time building obstacles in my path.

Group: I am a servant of God.

Leader. People can spend their time telling me I am wasting mine.

Group: I am a servant of God.

Leader: They don’t know what I know

Group: I am a servant of God.

Leader: They don’t know what I am.

Group: I am a servant of God.

Leader: I am healed. I am free. I am forgiven.

Group: I am a servant of God.

All: Amen.

Closing Music

To introduce the song, the Leader might say:

It was a tradition in the time of Jesus to close the Passover meal with a song. Although the Bible does not say so, it’s likely Jesus and his disciples followed and sang at the end of the meal.

Song: ‘Build Your Kingdom here’

Closing Prayer:

God, we stand before you now with the taste of bread and wine on our lips. We feel the presence of your Son in our bodies and in our hearts and in our souls. He is a part of us now, and we are part of Him, and so we are also a part of you. Fill us with your Spirit, God. Make us into the body of Christ.

Amen.
